E339 week 1
The first day of class was a bit rough. I don't know about anyone else, but 3 hours is such a long time to be sitting in one class. I really like what I see on the syllabus and after reading "A Writer's Notebook" I am really excited about my new journal. I went out and bought a gray leather book that says, journal down the side. I defintiely didn't want to write in a spiral notebook ;) I really like the idea of using it as a "writing-as-lifejacket." It will help me express my feelings and my emotions. I also really like the idea of keeping it next to my bed and writing my dreams in it. I probably won't use it as a list keeper because I don't want to tear pages out and I'm surely not taking my lifejacket everywhere with me. I also really like the idea of keeping artifacts in it. Those artifacts will help me remember the events that took place in my life. The best part of the book will be looking back at it in a few years to realize what I was thinking when I was a junior in college. Hopefully the writers notebook will help me grow as a writer and as person.

We are the opposite in how we want to use our writers notebook! I wonder how they will differ and how we will like them.
ReplyDeleteHi Brent,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your first post. I do agree that 3 hours is a long time! I sometimes find myself drifting away when I have classes that long. I think we will get used to the long classes though, especially once we start doing activities in class. I always find that times passes by faster when I am doing something active in class! I am also really excited about our writer's notebook. I think putting artifacts in our notebook is a fabulous idea. I am a "to-do list" person, so I may like writing my to-do lists in the book, but the idea of writing your dreams in the notebook is a great idea! I like the last line of your post. I think we will enjoy reading our notebooks when we are in different stages of our lives!
Nice post!

Brent, how did I know you would think of something creative to call your book or refer to it as? It was pure genius. I hope to use my Writer's Notebook in the same way and as a way to remember what I was like in college, which i'm sure will be interesting to look back on down the road :)

Brent, I really liked your idea of keeping your journal next to your bed so that you can record your dreams! I feel like that dreams are something I always forget if I don't tell someone right away, or write them down. I also like what you said about keeping a journal so you are able to remember the way you were when you were as a Junior. Its strange to think that you might forget yourself or who you were over time, but in this busy world, I can certainly see how that is possible!

Brent- I hate to be the third person to express a liking for your dream idea; however, I really love the thought and I think you could take it a step further. Once you get your dream written down, there are plenty of websites online that can help you "decode" if you must, your dreams and help you figure out what might be going on in the world of Brent that you might not be realizing. Your string of dreams might make for an interesting book or story in your future. I'll sure be dying to read them!
ReplyDeleteHey Brent!
ReplyDeleteI like how you talked about your Writer's Notebook. I feel the exact same way. I love my new Writer's Notebook and have already written so much in it!
Brent, I used to keep a dream journal. They are the best! If I don't write my dream down as soon as I wake up I so quickly forget!! Dream journals are so interesting to read, especially when you read entries from previous years.
